Dear HarmonySite administrator,
Here's a list of the new features in your HarmonySite. These are all active and available now.
New tool to arrange the site's navigation menu
Our captive genius, David Wiener of Harbourtown Sound, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, author of our new-and-improved Riser Stack module, has created for us a NEW tool, one that allows you to arrange your site's navigation menu (across the top of your site: Home, About, Contact, etc) using simple drag-and-drop.
If you've ever tried to arrange your site's navigation menu in the past, you'll know it's a bit of pain: usually manually adjusting "ranking" numbers, trial and error, etc. Our new tool lets you drag menu items (navigation links) to their new position within a menu, or into a completely different menu. Entire menus can also be dragged left and right. Navigation links can be updated and deleted (and added) directly from the same page. It's all very visual and easy, and works exactly they way you would expect it to.
To find this new tool, click the new link called "Arrange the Site Navigation Menu" in the "Administration" box on your main Members page.
Notes
- There's no "Save" button. Changes are saved instantly, as soon as you move an item
- As you drag menu items around, the actual, live site menu items that they represent (at the top of the page) don't appear to change. They actually Do change, instantly, but you need to refresh the page (or visit any OTHER page) to see the changes take effect.
- It's not particularly meaningful to use this new tool in a HarmonySite that is a "members area only" HarmonySite (sites that don't have a public-facing component). Such sites don't actually have a site menu.
Other New HarmonySite Features
- The login page now has a little "eye" icon next to the password box. Clicking the icon reveals the password you have typed in.
- Library items can now be linked to songs. Several groups use the "Libraries" module to track multiple copies of printed sheet music. So for example you may have a song where you have 50 licensed copies of the printed sheet music. It's always been possible to enter each of those 50 copies into the "Libraries" system, so that you can track who has which printed copy. Each of those 50 copies can now be linked back to the actual song in your main list of songs, so that if you visit the song's page, you'll see (at the bottom of the page) the list of copies, showing which member has currently borrowed each copy.
- For those of you that sell tickets, merchandise, etc - there's now a "Cash" payment method that purchasers can select during checkout. Selecting this payment method means "I will pay cash for this purchase at the next meeting" (or similar). To enable this new payment method, click the little "cog" icon in the top-right corner of the site, then click the cog icon next to "HarmonySite". Then click the "Payments" tab. You'll find a new box called "Cash payment instructions". To enable the cash payment method, enter any instructions into that box, such as "Bring your money next Monday night and give it to Mary".
- If you sell tickets to events, you can now specify the maximum number of tickets that can be sold. If you do, the system will not allow further tickets to be sold once that limit is reached (you can't oversell a sold-out show). Note that the limit includes (a) tickets sold through the website, and (b) tickets marked as sold offline. To enable this, three things must be in place:
- Tickets must be available to be purchased for an event, through the HarmonySite system, in the usual way. Instructions for setting up event ticket sales are here: https://www.harmonysite.com/guides/tickets.htm
- The event must have a VENUE selected. By this I mean that there must be a "venue" set up on the "Venues" page (on your main Members page, in the "Administration" box, click the "Manage Event Venues" link, and ensure that a venue is created), and then the event itself must have that venue selected (update the event's details, select a "Predefined venue" from the list, and clear any OTHER venue details from the event
- The venue record must have its "Seating capacity" filled in with a number (like "220"). Update the venue record and fill in that field.
As usual, if you discover any issues with these new features, please let us know.
Cheers,
Mark Virtue
